The role of facilitators who support and guide teachers' professional development (PD) has been receiving increasing attention in recent years. The aim of this study was to review research trends of facilitators for PD in teaching physical education. A notable finding from the study is that different PD content and support strategies are required de- pending on the school and teacher contexts and the facilitator's role. Facilitators are required more diverse competen- cies and pedagogical skills than traditional PD in addition to professional knowledge. However, not all of them possess comprehensive expertise, and they encounter challenges in acquiring facilitation pedagogy and the strategy for build- ing relationships.
